Flower Friday- Geranium in winter…

Last weekend I bragged about how warm it still is around these parts in winter. Well, nature did not like my words. We are being hit by a cold front, and as I am sitting here in my study, my feet are blocks of ice…  So no riding today.

Today’s flower, the Geranium (Pelargonium) ,  is one of the flowers that spread around the world.

This Geranium was braving the cold with such cheer that I thought I would share it, while all the northern hemisphere bloggers are showing off their summer gardens…

I see different flowers are called Geraniums. These are the kind I know: http://www.clemson.edu/extension/hgic/plants/landscape/flowers/hgic1164.html

Day Lily- Flower Friday

Just before our Word Rider trip, I went with a friend to a wedding ceremony at the beautiful town of Riebeek Kasteel. While he was conducting the marriage of Miss Fitness SA of 2009 and 2010 inside, I walked around outside. So much beauty inside!

Like most old town churches there is a old cemetery on the church grounds.  Telling tales of old sorrow long time ago- like this father buried alongside two of his children between 1883-1886.  The father lived to the age of 38, his child alongside lived only 6 months. The child on the right has a different surname but is buried in the same family plot. Maybe the widow married again very soon, and this child died before reaching 3 months old… It must have been hard times for the Hugo and Malan families in the old Cape Colony…

But next to this old story of sadness and suffering there stands a row of Day Lilies, reminding us to live TODAY!

Water Lily on Flower Friday

Today, being my day off, I went to my favorite coffee shop.  Had two cups of decaf- life is really about adaptation!  I miss my high octane java! And the wifi didn’t work there as well…  But as I walked out, my eye caught this beautiful water lily. My favorite coffee shop has quite a few koi dams, and other fountains of various design.  I only had my mobile phone to take the picture.  But it is beautiful to me!

Flower Friday

This week I am not near my Postaday wish. I am experiencing some connectivity issues. My wifi router is terminally ill. It gets extremely hot, and then just flashes four green lights. I have ordered a new wifi router on our country’s version of Amazon, but it will take at least 12 days to source, they say. Life without internet, like life without decent coffee, has little meaning left…

Sorry I am not even able to read all my favorite blogs at the moment!

Flower Friday- Yellow Gazania

Today might seem a little boring around here! I think the yellow colour is the base colour of the Gazania flower, all the other exotics have been bred from this. The Yellow Gazania is very hardy, and can take drought extremely good. This one is standing near my swimming pool in the back yard.

This is all I have time for today. I have just seen the young couple that I am marrying tomorrow afternoon. And now I am waiting for 11 o’ Clock, then I have to conduct yet another funeral, it has been a weekly occurance now for the last few weeks. I believe there will be more interesting posts again soon… Enjoy your blogging, and take care!

The Friendly Rider…

Flower Friday

I don’t know what these are called- help if you know….

I don’t have many words this morning, as I have to go and get my bicycle out of it’s winter slumber. It is time to quit being a lazy fatty, and start getting to be a super athlete again.  So in an hour’s time my butt will hurt and my legs will be screaming in pain…  Maybe I will write a lamentation later on today…

Flower Friday- Arum lily

The Arum Lily, as I have it, is one of our native South African plants that has spread to gardens throughout the world.

Like you would have seen yesterday, I am not at a good place in my journey at the moment. So this flower will just have to do for the whole weekend,

I am going camping with the church. It will be the first time in a year that my Caravan will be moving…

I hope your weekend is a good one!
