Ancient Dodge- Ailsa’s Weekly Travel Theme

http://wheresmybackpack.com/2014/02/28/travel-theme-ancient/

South Africa is a young country, we don’t have many old ruins yet… So I had to find something else that is ancient, relative to me…

So I present, for your consideration (sorry Quinton Tarantino and Django…) an ancient old Dodge that me and my daughter found for her project at the Design School.  This is purely my version, my daughter takes much better photos than me!   I would also love to know if any petrolheads out there know more about this car? I think the right front light was used to spot German Bombers in WW II…

How do I know it is a Dodge at all? The only reason is the wheel’s hubcap!

NOW I am running out of old wreck photos…

P.S. Congrats to the Australian Cricket Team for their victory in the 3rd test match at Cape Town, thereby winning the series.  David Warner is a world class batsman, and Mitchell Johnson a world class bowler. But Ryan Harris really hurt us in the end!  Well done, all Aussie fans. Now let’s enjoy the Twenty/20 games!

Chevrolet Fleetline- somebody’s dream car…

I have a small confession to make. I love seeing Car restoration programs on Discovery. People like Chip Foose, and to see Fast & Loud, and a lot of other similar programs. Maybe even Pimp my Ride on MTV when I do get the courage to watch my teenagers’ channel!  I have this deep hidden desire to be handy, to be able to bring old things back to life. But sadly, it will only stay a dream. I just have no skill whatsoever with any tools!

But I wonder: what would these guys in America be able to create with given this old Chevrolet Fleetline body? I can imagine something so beautiful and classy.  Does anyone out there have any more info on this car- which year, how good was it, was it fast?

It is always hard to imagine: this car rolled of the production line, brand new. It was somebody’s dream car. Maybe they had to save a long time for the deposit, and paid quite a long time on the installments.  I hope this car gave happy times, and travelled around a lot.  I wish cars could really tell their stories, where they have been, what they have seen. Maybe not tell of all the romantic moments on the back seat!

I would love to see this car come alive again! looking something like this beauty:

P.S. For my Australian Friends… your Cricket team is giving my cricket team a real hiding!  I am not happy. But damn, that Warner guy is batting beautifully at the moment!

Another old wreck…

This week I don’t seem to have much on my mind.  I am busy planning my Motorbike trip to Cape Town next month, and am getting really excited.  My BMW got an oil change, and a new front tire. I thought that I could put a Dueller tire, like the Metzeler Tourance in front, as I have in the back. Now I find out that the Roadster’s 18″ front tire do not come in any Dueller tires. So I opted for a Bridgestone Spitfire, as that was available in our town…

As I do not have many words in my heart at the moment, I will share another one of Saturday’s wrecks that my daughter and I have photographed. I also have no idea what this is- maybe an older petrolhead can help us out with the info!!

Monday Morning Blues…

The thought that I am going to miss this year’s Argus Cycle Race, is really getting me down. It will be the first one since 1995 that I miss, after completing 19 in a row successfully. So this is how I feel this morning:

_MG_0593I could not decide between this original colour or sepia tone:

_MG_0593bI also have to cut down seriously on coffee, as it really gives me gall attacks, and that is also traumatic…

I hope your week looks better than my Monday!

Ps- these are some of Saturday’s photos from that session me and my daughter enjoyed together…

The old ’56 Ford…

My daughter is studying Graphic Design, with Photography as one of her main subjects.  She came home this weekend with an assignment: she has to photograph cars. Old ones, and brand new stock photos.  I do not know anybody with a brand new grand car…

But one of the farmers in our church, I found out, has an old 1956 Ford in his shed. So we went there.  And some other places afterwards. I enjoyed myself, and took a lot of photos. I am not sure if she got what she wanted, but I enjoyed another day out with my daughter and our cameras…

Here is some of the old Ford in the shed- can someone shed some light on the model? 🙂

The Hue of You… Purple???

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/10/18/hue-photo-challenge/

Sometimes I am not even comprehensible to myself. So on these days I feel… Purple…  Or maybe it was just the hue of a beautiful classic Cadillac that I saw in a shopping mall parking lot on Saturday, and I wanted to share with as much people as possible… who knows?

Somebody did take his Canon Powershot Sx 150 iS with him to take photos, and then… left the Micro SD card in the laptop…
