That beautiful 1925 Type 23 Bugatti!

Yesterday I shared some iconic hood emblems of three classic cars. The Bugatti really stood out for me. I just love Bugatti!  This beauty can be seen at the Franschhoek Motor Museum in South Africa.

You remember this one:

But it would be so unfair not to show the rest of the car as well…

Now this is truly a thing of beauty in my eyes…

The Cord 810- Timeless Beauty!

One of South Africa’s best destinations for petrolheads is the Rupert family’s Motor Museum just outside the scenic town of Franschhoek. I had such a fun day with my eldest son, just enjoying the beautiful cars in this magnificent collection.

I would have loved to hear this car start up, and would be in heaven if I could drive it around the block! But seeing it in real life was already a huge thrill!

You can read all the technical data here at wikipedia. I will post one or two more in the coming days of this experience, maybe it will help clear my creative block.

Cutting Edge Restoration- What a Car…

Ailsa’s Travel Theme has the theme of “Edge” this week, open for interpretation. So here is my interpretation of “Edge”- the Cutting Edge of Car Restoration…

Today, I have seen this car in Lynnwood road. Pretoria. I just had to stop and take a few photos. it was one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen. Unfortunately the only camera I had with me was my Samsung Galaxy S3 mobile phone…

But I love to share beauties like this on my blog with my discerning readers…

20140830_134717 20140830_134736 20140830_134745 20140830_134807 20140830_134829I have no idea what car this is- there is a Chevy engine peeking out. Who can help with more info on this car?

But thanks to the owner for parking it so majestically outside that people like me can admire it’s beauty!

Rust- Word a Week Challenge

Every week Sue dips into her Oxford English dictionary and comes up with a word which becomes our challenge… this week it is Rust…

Can do Rust…

There might be a spot of rust on this Rat Bike… I can’t even see what it was originally…

Our Good Book says that Moth and Rust will be taking it’s toll on everything (Matthew 6: 19 in the Bible), so we must rather invest in things that can last forever- like faith and love, and meaningful relationships…

VW Beetle rules!

My son took this photo while we were working on the Beetle yesterday. I played with it a little bit on my phone’s editor. I just love how this hubcap turned out!

This week will be another hard one full of appointments and tasks needing my attention. But every now and then I will try to grab a piece of sanding paper and head to the shed…  My son’s birthday is just over 3 weeks away…

Will post if something worthwhile happens to Jeremiah… (the Beetle- so called because it was Lamentations driving it long distance at university…)

Round- Ailsa’s Travel Theme

http://wheresmybackpack.com/2014/04/18/travel-theme-round/

As a Christian I would love to post the round stone of an empty grave in Jerusalem this morning.  But I have never been there yet… Don’t have such a photo of my own to post (yet…)

So here are some round objects as captured by my lens…

The wagon wheel played a big part in our country’s history, just like the USA…

Good Friday- another view…

Today is Good Friday for us Christians, a very holy day for us. We went to church at 08h00 this morning, and I did not have to preach- it is good being more than one pastor in our church…

After church we went with our younger colleague, his wife and a doctor friend to our town’s Golf Estate for a hearty breakfast. So good so far…

Then, I was not wholly holy today… 🙂  My son is having his 18th birthday in less than a month. I want to give him my old VW Beetle. This Beetle is a very valuable Beetle. Not money wise, it is probably not worth any more than the scrap metal value. But my grandmother bought this Beetle brand new when I was 1 year old…I know this Beetle my whole life long so far.

So I have engaged my two eldest sons to help me today.  We have to repair years and years of rust. The problem: I really have NO mechanical skill whatsoever. Between Youtube clips and Jim Tyler’s fantastic book: “How to restore Volkswagen Beetle” we are stumbling along merrily…

Here is some evidence of the crime scene, My Lady… (someone has been watching too much Oscar Trail…)

In any case- here goes…  And yes, I am working hard on weight loss too for next year’s Argus Cycle race, lost 10 kg since February, still a lot to go…

IMG_2324 IMG_2326
IMG_2335Damn, when I looked at the photos just now, I thought it was my father! He also worked on this Beetle for me, but he had more of an idea what he was doing.  But he did not have much skill in teaching his son…  Me neither, but me and the boys did have a very good Friday anyway!  Most probably the Beetle will disintegrate when we finally turn the ignition key… But it was fun so far…

Oh yes, while we are working on the body, the seats is being renewed elsewhere, I really hope the guy does a good job on the upholstery!

When did the Beetle manage to get itself in such a sorry state? Slowly but surely it is coming back to life. The rate of restoration is directly equal to the drainage on my finances…  But it seems to be good for father and sons relationships!

I will post IF there is any progress…
