I am a blessed man!

With a wife who still loves me after nearly 25 years of marriage and 4 kids! And who rides with me on my new bike! What more could a man want in life?

Today we took our first ride together on the “new” GS…  It was fun!

And yes, I love my wife dearly!

So… I am cooking tonight’s meal: a Chicken Pot…  served on a bed of Couscous…  The chicken is underneath all the veggies…

Easter Weekend Ride!

In South Africa it is quite traditional for Bikers to go to the Eastern Transvaal/ Mpumalanga for a Easter Weekend Ride…

Being a pastor, and this being the most holy weekend of the Church year, I can almost never go for a far ride and an Easter Weekend away.

But today we nearly had a FAR Ride!  A good friend I met at last year’s Word Riders Tour, and his wife, invited me and my wife to ride along today,

We did not reach Mpumalanga but we did ride a good 360 km today!  Remember- South Africa can be quite a dry country. So we love water. And we go out of our way to see the sea, and if that is too far away- a proper dam will do nicely. OK Canadian friends, we dont have anything to compete with the Great Lakes…

But: 180 km from our home is the Loskopdam between Middelburg and Groblersdal. And there we went this morning.

Here is some of the fun- I did not take many photos today…

IMG_2343 IMG_2353We had a lovely lunch at the Bospot- (Bush Pot… not difficult to understand Afrikaans!) Restaurant. I enjoyed the Calzone Pizza, but I really thought a Calzone must be folded like an omelet?  In any case, it still was lovely.  I just wished we had booked at a guest house and could ride some more… But tomorrow is Easter Sunday, not to be missed in my congregation…

But thanks Philip and Marietjie, this was an AWESOME day!

Sunday Cruisin’ – A Monument to German Engineering (WPC)

The Weekly Photo Challenge this week is “Monument” in any form.

What seems to be a more fitting Monument for German Motorcycle Engineering Prowess than this- an antique old Beemer on a Sunday Cruise…

No, I don’t have permission from the people on this photo. And I took a hasty photo on my mobile phone in the Streets of Melkbosstrand.  I would love a slightly different angle on this one…

But this activity- I get! A dad driving around with his son on a vintage BMW. On one of the beautiful March days that the Cape sometimes have. I have no clue which model. It looks like one of the older smaller ones- a 25o cc? BMW fanatics, please help?

IMG_2092If this is you: Please may I use this photo for this purpose?

If you know this rider- please ask him?

And if you know the bike, share the info?

Zen and the art of Motorcycle cleaning…

Since my last blog entry, I had a traumatic turn of events. My two sons in Highschool (Secondary…/?) returned home with their first term school reports…   I really need to tell them this is not the place to play “How low can you go…”

I see images of them standing at the main road crossing with cardboard signs, begging…

It is really, really traumatic…  They could even become teachers… (don’t tell my wife I said so, please…)

So I decided to turn all the angst into action. I drove the BMW outside, and started giving it the best wash it has ever had…

There is some therapeutic value in washing a motorcycle before the next Ride… It is the one terrain in life where you actually get to see a difference after a few hours of hard work. Pastors don’t get to see that so often! Parents obviously not, either.

So, my motorcycle is clean, and begging for a ride. Why not?

Thank you Robert M Pirsig for the great title I could beg/borrow/steal from you!
