Adventure, when I grow a little… WPC (ii)

IMG_1520First off- not my photo! My daughter has taken it at our Church Fete on Saturday.

But the longing for adventure in a little boy’s heart was just so obvious  in this Challenge’s field that I could not resist…

Adventure- WPC

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/dp_photo_challenge/adventure/

My idea of Adventure involves getting on a motorbike, and going more than 1000 km from home…

This was taken on one of the passes near Swellendam, Cape Province, South Africa…  quite a few years ago.

On the same journey- maybe you will recognize this background…

Tafelberg

Man, I miss the Aprilia Pegaso! What a trusty bike she was…

I also had some adventure about an hour ago. came off my GS on a sandy road… bike fine, my ego gone…

Country Church Fete

In our rural churches in South Africa, a pretty big chunk of time goes into planning and executing our yearly Church Fete. It happened today.

And here is just some of the moments from today.

The last 4 photos was taken by my talented daughter… anyone looking for a great graphic designer next year, let me know…

BTW- Aussie friends- I am so sad about this morning’s rugby game… hate the ref…

Meanwhile, back in Harare… Isn’t the Du Plessis/ De Villiers batting partnership pure joy to watch? That is cricket for our USA friends, you don’t get rugby and cricket, but we love to hate the Aussies on those sport fields… 🙂

Listen to your Sugar packet…

This morning Mrs Rider took a day leave from school. IT is the final day before our yearly church festival. SO we are starting with a very rare Friday morning breakfast together.

One of our sugar companies have these words of wisdom printed on every packet. Maybe if I use more sugar I will become more wise…

This cup of coffee teaches me: “if you want to be happy, be…” by Leo Tolstoy.

OK. NOW I am happy…

And the second cuppa: “happiness is a habit- cultivate it” by Elbert Hubbard.

OK, Cultivating in three, two, one… mission accomplished…

Thanks Hullets! Now I have to train twice as hard today… 😥

Oh the things we shall see…

This afternoon nearly went really bad. My son and I was nearly involved in a huge accident with the VW Beetle, with a lorry on the open road trying his best to run us off the road.  Our country has road rage as a national sport after soccer, and then rugby and cricket. But I did not want to compete in the honorable sport of beating up other road users, and I did not have a bat with me. So we just had to let it go.

We were on our way to a man living between our town and the next one. a man skilled in the art of car restoration. We wanted some advice on the Beetle’s driver door being stuck. And my son also wanted to ask him to borrow a nice old classic car for the matric farewell evening (the USA Prom Night idea…)

You will have to wait till the end of September to see what he will be driving his date in… but it is GOOD wheels!

In any case- we did make it safely to the farm, scared ****less but still in one piece.

This man also has a collection of Harleys. And when he showed us around, we saw this old one, still in working condition, standing behind his more regularly used Harleys. I again only had my Samsung Galaxy with me, and the battery was low, so I could not use the flash. But I hope the photos still convey some awe of a machine, dating from 1943 (that is 71 years old!) still able to go go for a ride…

I have real respect for this bike! And the emblem on the tank: oh boy, war sure inspire a lot of dangerous thoughts…

I think one day I will go back with my decent Canon, and ask to take a few up to standard photos of this bike. But I really wanted to share this special moments…

The Harley Fans can say what model it is, made in 1943…

cees-fun-foto Also tagged under Cee’s Challenge, because I was looking for wheels, and with the near accident have forgotten all about it. Click on the logo to see some other dear friends’ amazing contributions on the subject Wheels…

Spring is in the air…

We have one big plus in our part of the world. Winter only lasts about two months of the year around here…

But- Spring day yesterday was a cold one!  And yesterday was not a good day either, with a good friend and colleague dying of a heart attack.

The last few weeks’ pressure and sad times  is getting to me today. And I do have a few difficult appointments lined up all through today. (One man I visited was angry at me for nine years now. Hopefully he feels better after this morning’s little chat…)

But there is one remedy for my melancholic feelings that always works- a ride on my bike.

So over lunch I popped over to our neighboring town, where a good friend works at the Chicken farm.
2014-09-02 12.30.12They have a very good farm stall at Spif Chickens, and we had a good lunch there- a chicken burger with bacon and cheese. Not with fries, but with salad- cucumber and lettuce and tomatoes. Together with a good cup of coffee. So that he can tell me about his adventures at the Swazi Rally…

Motorbikes and friends really helps me getting along in life’s difficult times. Thanks Duster!

It is still quite cold at the moment, but the climate is changing fast for the better- good riding times ahead… Now I really need to buy a new rear tire, I have to cover mine with a mosquito net at every stop…
