Daily Prompt: Trains, Planes, and Automobiles
by michelle w. on June 26, 2013
You’re going on a cross-country trip. Airplane, train, bus, or car? (Or something else entirely — bike? Hot air balloon?)
Photographers, artists, poets: show us TRAVEL.
The way I love to travel the most is on any one of my MOTORCYCLES!
Even more so when it is cross-country. I live in the Northern part of South Africa, and Cape Town is 1650 km south, (1000 miles more or less…)
These are just some of the memories- both these bikes are standing outside my house at the moment, both are ready to ride… for I am the RIder!

At the Tropic of Capricorn just south of Louis Trichardt (Makhado)
- I think this is Tredouxs Pass between the Route 62, and the N2 Garden Route…
Except for the Tropic of Capricorn all these photos were taken more than 1000 km from home…
you travel alone? Great bikes by the way.

Thanks Jennifer! Welcome here and thanks for the follow! I go to Cape Town each March to ride in the Argus Cycle race, my bicycle is sent with friends. My wife is a teacher and can not get leave that time of year. So it is a yearly ritual- I go cross country, visiting a lot of friends along the way and riding the race. So this trip is usually solo. My wife just like the short daytrips and she has a story about us crashing and leaving our kids behind… The wonderful thing is she understands my passion and gives me her blessing to ride… she knows it keeps me sane,…
I ride with my husband and in fact we are going on a multi-island road trip with a local motorcycle club here in the Philippines later this week. But we usually stay in inns/motels along the way. I don’t think I can do the whole camping route 🙂
Great to know a fellow biker. We have a 1200. Cheers. Looking forward to reading more about your riding adventure and about your part of the world.
I bet Ronnie’s draws in a great number of customers.
It is always very busy when I get there… 🙂 Al the tour busses stop there as well…
I always wanted to drive a motorcycle.
Live the dream- do it!

Ronnies sex shop, lol, that reminds me of a story I have. ” Pleasure Palace” is what I called the establishment, :0)
This sex shop is just a pub with a good name! 🙂 And an excellent location in a semi desert- you really get thirsty on a bike going through there…
If I remember correctly the story goes that the guy setting up the coffee shop, painted the name ‘Ronnie’s shop’ on the wall. And then he had friends taking care of the place while he had some other business to attend to. They pulled a prank by adding ‘sex’ to the name. And then the reaction on the name caused the owner to keep it that way. Lol! Great place to stop for breakfast or lunch if you go the scenic route to KKNK in Oudtshoorn.
the view is breathtaking. 1650 kms? do you camp out during the night?
greetings from jakarta 🙂
